Military Justice spotlight for May

The following information is a summary of nonjudicial punishments given by commanders under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice in May. The punishments are determined based on the individual facts and circumstances of each case.

An airman first class from the 23d Communications Squadron failed to go to two appointed places of duty in violation of Article 86, Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The airman first class was also derelict in the performance of duty; by sleeping while on duty. The airman first class received a reduction to the grade of airman basic and a reprimand.

A staff sergeant from the 41st Rescue Squadron was derelict in the performance of duty, by willfully misusing a Government travel card in violation of Article 92, UCMJ. The staff sergeant also dishonorably failed to pay a Government travel card debt in violation of Article 134, UCMJ. The staff sergeant received 30 days extra duty and a suspended reduction to senior airman.

An airman basic from the 347th Operations Support Squadron failed to obey a lawful order by driving a vehicle on Moody Air Force Base with revoked driving privileges. The airman basic received 14 days extra duty, 14 days restriction, suspended forfeiture of $745.00 pay per month for two months and a reprimand.

A master sergeant from the 723d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was disorderly by being unprofessional and provoking an individual; yelling and verbally abusing the individual by intimidation. The conduct was of a nature to bring discredit upon the Armed Forces. The master sergeant received a forfeiture of $575.00 pay, a suspended reduction to the grade of technical sergeant and a reprimand.

A staff sergeant from the 336th Recruiting Squadron was derelict in the performance of duty by failing to accurately report a recruit's weight. The staff sergeant received a suspended reduction to the grade of senior airman and a reprimand.
