Mass in the Grass What: St. Patrick's Catholic Community will celebrate Mass in the Grass When: Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m. Where: Grassy Pond The Religious Education program will kick off the school year at 9:00 a.m. and the parish picnic will follow Mass. There will be no Mass celebrated at the base chapel on Sept. 9. Chapel position The base Chapel is currently accepting resumes for a Chapel Tithes & Offerings Fund Account Manager. Applicants must have at least two years of recent experience in bookkeeping or general accounting skills. Experience as an Air Force chapel bookkeeper would be desirable. Applicants must be able to pass a security background investigation or provide documentation of a current background investigation. High schools host military appreciation night What: Lowndes County and Valdosta City Schools Military Appreciation Night When: Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets for Lowndes Viking fans will be available the night of the game. Visit the ticket booth on visitor's side. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Seating will be on the visitor's side. Tickets for Valdosta Wildcat fans will be available the week of the game at the Valdosta City Schools Ticket Office, 1204 Williams St. On the night of the game, please visit the ticket booth at the main gate. Seating will be on the home side in Section B. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Chapel events AWANA, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. and will run until 7:30 p.m. AWANA Kick-off and Fall Festival will be held on Sept. 29 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be food, games, and lots of fun. This is a free event sponsored by the Moody AFB Chapel. Moody AFB Chapel will be sponsoring a Marriage Retreat Sept. 14 and Sept. 15. Commissary initiative During September, the Moody Commissary will be conducting a $2 million sales initiative. If the commissary reaches the $2 million sales plateau, one lucky patron will win $1,000 in commissary gift cards and two patrons will win $500 each. They will also be giving away gift cards and prizes throughout September as part of the Patron Appreciation event going on the entire month. To win the $1,000 card or one of the $500 gift cards, patrons need to do the following: · Do all of your shopping at the commissary. The more times you shop the better your chances to win. · Each time you shop from September 1 to 30, you will receive duplicate receipts for each transaction. · Before leaving the commissary, place one receipt into the drawing box and keep the other. On October 1, 2012, three receipts will be drawn and posted at the commissary. The patrons will need to bring their receipt to the commissary and compare theirs with the receipts drawn. Therefore, the more times you shop the more entries you can place in the drawing box. Hunter safety brief What: If you plan to hunt on Moody, you must attend one of the annual Base Hunter Safety Briefs. When: August 21, 23, 27, 29 and 31, and on September 4, and 6. Start time will be at 5:30 p.m. Where: Building 701, located on 8219 Apron A Road, upstairs in room 201 (A-10 Phase hanger). In addition to the base safety brief, you must obtain a Moody Air Force Base hunting permit through Outdoor Recreation and all applicable Georgia licenses. If you were born after Jan. 1, 1961, you must attend a Georgia Hunter Safety Course or provide proof of attendance at another state sponsored hunter safety course. Hometown News release submissions Airmen can submit a DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release, electronically by clicking on the link via either the internal base website or the public website, www.moody.af.mil. Submissions can include a photo: minimum output 150 dpi, image size 4x5 to 5x7, JPEG format - compressed no lower than 60 percent, and saved as the submitter's last name. Appropriate newsworthy events for submission include promotions, graduations, new assignments, awards, decorations, reenlistment, retirement, etc. Submissions are reviewed by 23d Wing Public Affairs before forwarding to the Army and Air Force Hometown News Service.
