Moody AFB: there’s an app for that

A one stop shop for what's going on at Moody is now available in the palm of your hand.

It's the first mobile application in the Air Force that pulls a list of events from organizational Facebook pages associated with Moody and consolidates them into a central location through both the Android Market and Apple's App Store. It's called My Military Communities, or MyMC2, and is free to download now.

Moody adopted the MyMC2, which was developed by the 375th Communication Support Squadron web application development team at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The app is available at several Air Force bases, including Moody, and is currently being updated with events.

"MyMC2 is a one-stop resource for Airmen, their families and retirees," said U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Meredith Kirchoff, 23d Wing chief of public affairs. "It provides a way for them to access information for all the events happening on base from the convenience of their phones."

With categories such as family, outdoors and fitness, users can find activities that meet their needs.

Event listings give a more detailed description including time, location and contact numbers. With the click of a button the event can be automatically added to the calendar in a mobile phone. Clicking the map icon will open directions to the event via GPS.

"Our leadership is constantly looking for ways to build resiliency in the Moody community," Kirchoff said. "Oftentimes, people don't have the information about the important services offered on base at hand, so this app facilitates that connection and helps get people the support they need."

The app also offers two quick-call buttons on the home page, giving Airmen one-touch access to SOBER Ride and the base operator.

The app is managed by the Public Affairs office, but the events are populated by assorted Facebook pages.

While the base's public website does have a calendar and listings of agencies and programs available to Team Moody, this new app keeps every Airman and Moody community member connected 24/7 with the information on their phone.

To download the app you may open your smartphone's app store and search "My Military Communities" or "MyMC2." Download the app from your iPhone here and your Android device here.

The app pulls information from 11 Facebook pages to include Moody AFB official, 23d Force Support Squadron, 23d Logistic Readiness Squadron and Moody 5/6. Organizations interested in being a part of the MYMC2 app should call Staff Sgt. Stephanie Mancha at 229-257-4146.
