23d CES scheduled to test sewers Published May 16, 2013 By Eric W. Mortensen 23d Civil Engineer Squadron MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- As a result of a recent study, the 23d Civil Engineer Squadron will be conducting smoke tests of the sanitary sewer system to find leaks. Once identified, repairs will be made resulting in reduced installation utility bills as well protecting the environment and public health from sewer overflows similar to those that occurred in the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County recently. The testing is scheduled to start on May 28, 2013 and will consist of an odorless, whitish-gray smoke to find leaks. The plan is to test the sewers lines along the following streets: Basin Street, Berger Street, Flying Tiger Way, Robbins Way, Rickenbacker Road, Mathis Drive, Apron A Road, Woolsley Street, Torney Street, Ballard Street, Bivens Street, Vanguard Way, Smith Drive, Lancers Lane, Burma Road, Georgia Street, Mitchell Boulevard, Florida Road, Alabama Road, and George Street. This testing should have little to no impact on the installation's population. However, smoke may be observed coming out of the ground and possibly from drains inside of facilities. If you cannot confirm the observed smoke is from the testing, please dial 911 and the Fire Emergencies Services Flight will respond to investigate. For more information, please feel free to contact Harry Hughes at the 23d CES Operations Flight at 229-257-4975.
