Moody’s first ever “Owning Your Story” seminar took place Sept. 12, 2019.

During the event, Airmen shared stories of resiliency and how they overcame their adversity in a positive way.

“[This event] is another extension of Moody's commitment to help boost the resiliency for their Airmen,” said Tech. Sgt. Turquoise Williams, 74th Fighter Squadron flight chief, and event coordinator.  “It’s about people who are courageous and don't mind being vulnerable sharing their story with the intent to help someone else, because we all go through ups and downs in life.

“It’s not so much to focus on the hardships but it's about how you overcome that situation,” Williams added. “How do you bounce back, how are you resilient and how do you keep pressing forward?”

The stories shared ranged from suicide and depression to sexual assault and stalking, with the intent of inspiring other Airmen who may have gone or are going through similar situations to know that it’s okay to seek the help they need.

“Sometimes you feel as though you're the only one who's going through your struggle, and you don't know how to get out of it,” Williams said. “You don't seek help or you're afraid you’ll be judged. I want an Airman to be able to see how they’re not the only one that's going through this. Perhaps they’ll see how the speakers have gone through what they’re going through now, and how they’re still standing.”

One of the speakers explained how meaningful it was to have the opportunity to share her story of courage and strength.

“It’s important for me to share my story so I can help others see that they aren’t alone with the situations they’ve been through,” said Airman Bailey Worstell, 23d Civil Engineer Squadron logistics apprentice. “Having this event can help Airmen by providing a common ground between them and others who experience the same struggles. Also, it can help them get closure from sharing their story. Airmen need to see different ways and methods for coping. This allows them to choose how they want to heal.”

The seminars are scheduled to continue quarterly. They are hosted by Williams, and cover a range of resiliency topics. For more information on how to participate, please contact Williams at 229-257-7450.
