Unlike their parents who serve, military children never had to sign a contract or take an oath, but they still have to make sacrifices and face stresses that require them to become resilient at a very young age.

Moody Air Force Base showed its support for the resiliency of military children by hosting a number of events during the month of April.

“We want to celebrate (military children) and the contributions that they make to living this lifestyle and supporting the mission,” said Helen Reeves, Child Development Center director. “April, being the Month of the Military Child, is a time to thank them for the sacrifices they make. The challenges they have in their lives are more unique than children who don’t have parents in the military.”

The month of April is designated as the Month of the Military Child to show support for the children who help their parents accomplish the mission on a daily basis and honor each family’s perseverance in overcoming challenges.

“There are a number of programs such as the free movies and events they are doing on base,” Reeves said. “This encourages families to spend quality time while they are at Moody.”

This year’s events included a parade and the Month of the Military Child proclamation, a youth dance party, a super sports day and a teddy bear picnic. These events are a way for Moody to show the sacrifices our military members, spouses and children constantly make don’t go unnoticed.

“I think if you’re a parent or any way associated with military lifestyle, you will know that not only do our service members serve but the spouses and the children serve as well,” said Tina Bowen, Youth Center director. “I think it is really essential that there are days to celebrate the dedication the families go through.”
