On Oct. 17, 2016, the 2016 Department of Defense Unannounced Inspection took place. The Child Development Center, Family Childcare Program, and Youth Programs, which consist of the open recreation, school age, and sports program, have spent the last 12 months preparing for the annual inspection. The process entails briefing, reviewing, and implementing the Air Force 2016 Inspection Criteria for each program. The Air Force Multi-Disciplinary Inspection and the Annual Comprehensive Fire, Safety, and Health Inspection had to be accomplished as well.

During the 23d Mission Support Group’s out brief with Col. Susan Riordan-Smith, 23d MSG commander, the programs were lauded as one of the top programs the Air Force Inspectors had seen year to date. The staff excelled in communication, staff-to-child interactions, and classroom environments. There were several staff members who were recognized for going above and beyond: Ida Mays, Marcus Mayweather, Jalessa Roberts, Melissa Mitchell, Jan Hoffman, and Becky Lipp.

Additionally, along with those mentioned above, Karen White, 23d Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Services Flight Chief, was coined by Smith.

These programs work hard each and every day to uphold the child and youth program’s mission statement, "To assist DOD military and civilian personnel in balancing the competing demands of the accomplishment of the DOD mission and family life by managing and delivering a system of quality, available, and affordable programs and services for eligible children and youth, birth through 18 years of age."
