Survey asks Team Moody to weigh in on future growth

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Every member of Team Moody is being asked to participate in the housing requirements and market analysis survey to help determine Moody Air Force Base's future housing requirements.

The HRMA is a Department of Defense-level audit used to look at the local housing market and determine the amount of on-base housing needed to provide adequate, accessible, safe and affordable housing for all military members, said Lt. Col. Edwin Oshiba, 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron commander.

This is the first HRMA survey military members have had a chance to provide direct input in since 1997, said Colonel Oshiba.

Ordinarily, the team uses only first-hand research and housing market analysis to determine local needs.

Team Moody members will be able to access the survey until July 20.

"Our last HRMA was accomplished in 2002, before we knew about the impact of the base realignment and closure commission findings," said the commander. "Since this survey will project our needs to 2012, we are taking into account the approximately 800 new Airmen the A-10 units are bringing with them, as well as the possibility of the same number of permanent party Airmen arriving for future missions such as Common Battlefield Airmen Training."

In addition to the survey, a three-person team consisting of two independent consultants and an Air Combat Command housing official were here April 23-27 surveying property managers, realtors, law enforcement officials, city planners and developers.

These discussions are designed to get a precise picture of off-base housing capability and its future growth potential, said Louis Screws, 23rd CES housing flight chief. Information gathered will assist the team in determining how many additional military housing units the base should build and how much money that growth will need.

With so much attention being put on housing conditions, Mr. Screws said now was the time to have a real impact on Moody's standard of living for years to come.

"Team Moody members should take full advantage of this unique opportunity and spend just a few minutes filling out the survey," said Mr. Screws. "Your participation is vital to improving the housing conditions for the base."

The survey is anonymous, will not retain personally-identifiable information and should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete, said Mr. Screws.

Some of the information collected in the survey includes: the amount of time a survey participant waited for access to housing, survey-takers opinions of the housing they occupy, the drive time to and from the base, and how many dependents the survey participant has.

All military members are encouraged to complete the survey, regardless of whether they are accompanied or unaccompanied, live in privatized housing, in off-base housing, or in the dorms, or are a member of another uniformed service.

The HRMA survey in no way affects basic allowance for housing entitlements. It's used solely to assess the need for additional on-base housing.

The survey can be found online at http://www.airforcehousingsurvey.us. A base-wide
e-mail was sent containing the password needed to access the survey.
