Moody Airmen are preparing for the Air Combat Command unit compliance inspection on Aug. 17-22.

The ACC Inspector General will be conducting the inspection on Moody.  The UCI ensures the wing continues compliance with Major Command standards for the first time in three years.

"There are three key points the wing needs to address when preparing for the upcoming inspection," said Maj. David McCoy, 23rd Wing Plans and Inspections chief.  "The first is to sanitize your workplace of all outdated material."

Major McCoy said Airmen should go through old folders and make sure that they are properly marked with the current 23rd Wing designation.

"Materials created after the stand-up of the 23rd Wing should be marked as such," added Major McCoy.  "The wing doesn't want ACC to think that  we haven't looked at our processes in two years, and if we are still referencing Air Force Special Operations Command or the 347th Rescue Wing in our documentation, they probably will."

In addition to updating office documents, Major McCoy said another key aspect is for each Airmen to understand they should take a personal interest in preparing for the UCI..  When the ACC IG does their inspection, they may look at any program no matter how small, to ensure that everyone on base complies with the command's standards.

"Take responsibility and pride for your programs.  If a unit or a program does not comply, yeah it can look bad for the wing, but if it is your program, it reflects on you too," said Major McCoy.  "Every Airman should always be concentrating on performing day-to-day operations the right way."

To make sure the base is prepared, Major McCoy said it is vital to start preparing now.

"The XPI office understands that the inspection will not occur until Aug. of this year, but we urge all Airmen to begin preparations," said Major McCoy.  "We're not trying to ensure our processes are compliant just because of the UCI, this should be every Airmen's constant focus."

Each base organization should have a firm grasp on performing its day-to-day tasks correctly.

"We urge all units to 'scrub' their binders and make sure they reflect the exact way to perform each function they're responsible for," said Senior Master Sgt. David Smith, 23rd WG XPI superintendent.  "Offices need to ensure everyone who performs their given 'process' is following the guidance in those binders."

A slogan that the XPI office would like Moody Airmen to become familiar with is "scrutinize and sanitize."

"When we say 'scrutinize and sanitize' we mean to go through all of your 'processes' and make sure each one is being performed correctly," said Sergeant Smith.  "Ask yourself, is this the way we are doing business?  If a job isn't being performed according to established guidelines and standards then adjustments need to be made accordingly.

"The second part of the phase is to 'sanitize' that function," said Sergeant Smith.  "Simply put, there are relatively few things in this wing that should still say 347th RQW on them; polish it up and put your best foot forward."

He added that this is yet another opportunity for the phenomenal people of the wing to shine.

While offices start preparing for the inspection, the XPI office understands that there will be processes that need correcting.

"We would like Airmen to understand discovering these processes isn't a bad thing," said Major McCoy.  "Discovering incorrect processes means Airmen are taking their job seriously and making the correct steps to eliminate erroneous processes."

The XP office has posted a variety of instruction material on the Moody intranet website.  The site also contains guidelines for Airmen to follow as they review their processes.
