Moody's Family Advocacy Office and Integrated Delivery System, in conjunction with the local community school systems, is scheduled to host the 7th annual Parent University scheduled from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 1 at Valdosta Middle School.

The event involves more than 20 guest speakers including various civic and professional leaders.

Parent University features 22 various seminars parents can attend, including Money Management; Tips for Parents and Students, Challenges of Single Parents, Blended Families and Grandparents, and Surviving the Toddler Years: Toilet Training, Tantrums and more.

The classes will be held in three sessions so attendees can attend as many of the seminars as possible. Session I is scheduled from 9:30-10:20 a.m.; session II is from 10:30 - 11:20 a.m. and session III from 11:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m.

"For parents who don't have a seminar to attend, there will be a health fair hosted by the Valdosta City Schools," said Cindy Henley, 23rd Medical Group family advocacy nurse. "The fair is located in the (middle school's) gymnasium and includes 20 agencies from the local area informing parents on different issues when it comes to children's well-being."

While online registration has ended, parents can still attend the event by registering on-site the morning of the event. .

"Registration is currently at 353 parents and 363 children," said Lawanna Barron, 23rd MDG family advocacy outreach manager. "In comparison, our first Parent University had 50 parents and 75 children attend. As you can see the program has grown by leaps and bounds."

"This is the seventh year we have hosted the Parent University, and we know that it will be a success," Ms. Barron added. "We hold the university to enhance and enrich our children's lives, because they are our future wingmen, leaders and warriors."

Ms. Barron said the program is designed for anyone involved in a child's life, and no one will be turned away.

For parents with children attending, free childcare will be provided by professional, certified providers for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Attendees will also receive a free breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. and will be eligible for several different door prizes.
