The 23d Force Support Squadron (FSS) is currently reconstructing the Moody Inn playground, slated for completion, Jan. 26, here.

The 23d FSS rebuilt and designed the new playground to improve quality of life and safety for Team Moody families.

“It’s an experience that hopefully for families who are visiting, leaving or coming in, could all enjoy together,” said 1st Lt. Simon Pena, 23d FSS sustainment services flight commander. “It can provide entertainment for kids as adults are trying to figure things out or handle things on their own, and in a way that’s stress free.”

According to Pena, the base has invested more than $100,000 to ensure the park is constructed in accordance with the highest safety standards.

“This is something that was built for [families] specifically in mind,” Pena said. “This wasn’t something that we just wanted to do the bare minimum, or to try and just wave the safety hazards. [Leadership], taking in a lot of the feedback, realized they needed to step forward, and they have invested heavily into this.”

The playground will include fall zone material, a rubberized surfacing, that according to Pena, is one of the best. 23d FSS had coverings installed to protect against sun and any falling debris. The playground will also include a plethora of slides, four in total, making it the most deluxe playground ever on base.

Master Sgt. Daniel Swindle, 23d FSS superintendent of sustained services, expressed his appreciation for the upcoming playground, and how it was a positive gesture showing Moody’s care of its families.

“I have twin 3-year-olds, so having them both cooped up in [temporary living] and nowhere to go and run around would be stressful,” said Swindle. “Being able to walk right over to the playground and letting them get their energy out and play is beneficial to a family, especially when you’re PCSing (permanent change of station) in, and you have a lot of things you’re trying to take care of, like house hunting. Having a place for them to be able to run and get their energy out in a safe area, especially on base, is ideal.

“It shows [Moody] has a family mindset that we’re going to take care of the Airmen and their family and that it’s important to the base leadership. As parents, we’ll have a safe environment for our children, so we’re able to focus on whatever our job is and take care of the mission.”
