Cyber security awareness: everyone’s obligation
Individuals worldwide are encouraged to promote online safety as a part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Cyber security is defending the confidentiality, integrity, availability and accountability of the information on networks. No one is immune to cyberattacks and as service members; it’s their duty to practice proper cyber safety measures both on and off-duty. Ways to accomplish this are by keeping updated security software, protecting personal information, creating strong passwords and deleting suspicious emails, social network posts and text messages received. As stated by U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. William J. Bender, chief of information dominance and chief information officer, we must continue to adopt and promote a culture of cyber security. Bender added that this month is an opportune time to practice proper cyber security measures now and beyond to continue efforts in defending the nation in every domain.
