Col Brian L. Desautels, is the commander of the 347th Rescue Group, Moody AFB, GA. The 347th Rescue Group trains, organizes, and equips combat rescue forces to rapidly deploy worldwide in support of national security objectives and global personnel recovery and humanitarian relief operations. The group is comprised of four combat squadrons including Guardian Angel, HH-60W, and HC-130J operators as well as dedicated rescue support totaling 416 personnel and 22 aircraft.
Col Desautels commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the Virginia Military Institute in 2003. Following commissioning he served as a Civil Engineer at Tyndall AFB before attending Undergraduate Pilot Training. Throughout his career he has held a variety of operational and staff positions at the squadron, group, major command, and joint strategic level.
He is a Command Pilot with more than 2,800 flying hours, including 260 combat hours, with 27 combat saves and 36 combat assists. Col Desautels has extensive deployments in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW NORMAL, OCTAVE FUSION, INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM SENTINEL, and ALLIES REFUGE. On his deployments he has served in numerous positions including personnel recovery coordination cell director, director of operations, squadron commander, deputy group commander, and personnel recovery task force commander.
