  • Emerald Warrior combat search and rescue training

    A distinct and repetitious sound rumbles through the air above Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida as a U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft violently unleashes 4,200 rounds per minute from its 30mm hydraulic rotary cannon, breathing fire upon its target. The A-10s from the 107th Fighter Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan, provided close air support for a combat search and rescue scenario involving joint special operations forces during training exercise, Emerald Warrior, Jan. 22, 2019.
  • Airmen ‘bring the heat’ with hot pits, gear up faster turnaround

    Airmen from the 23d Logistic Readiness Squadron (LRS) and 476th Maintenance Squadron performed a hot pit refuel, Aug. 14, 2018, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. Members of the 23d LRS preposition fueling trucks to allow aircraft to refuel without needing to shut down. This style of refueling is used to eliminate the need for additional maintenance procedures and to extend pilots’ training time per flight which improves operations tempo.
  • Moody ‘rocks out’ at Patriot Fest

    Team Moody hosted the Patriot Festival, July 3, 2018, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. The free event allowed Airmen and their families an opportunity to take some time away from the mission and enjoy a Fourth of July experience. The event consisted of live music, food trucks, family fun and a firework show.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, based out of Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., are the Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team, performing at air shows and special events worldwide.
