Colonel John K. Lussier is the commander of the 563d Rescue Group, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, AZ. The group consists of an HC-130J rescue squadron, two HH-60G helicopter rescue squadrons, an operations support squadron, and two Guardian Angel squadrons, and one Guardian Angel formal training flight. He is responsible for the overall combat training and readiness of more than 700 personnel. The 563d Rescue Group plans and executes worldwide personnel recovery operations in support of the United States' national security and global military objectives.

Colonel Lussier graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1993 and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation.  He has held a number of flying and staff positions in several assignments within HH-60G squadrons in the United States, Iceland and Iraq.  He has served as an Air Force planner on the Air Staff while assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Air Force and as a staff officer while assigned to Joint Special Operations Command.  He also has worked as a senior advisor in Afghanistan while assigned to the Joint Staff's AFPAK Hands program.

Colonel Lussier is a senior pilot with more than 1,700 flight hours in the T-37, UH-1H and the HH-60G PaveHawk and is a fully qualified Joint Staff Officer.  He has supported a number of combat contingencies, including Operation(s) Southern Watch, Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and Enduring Freedom.
