Moody assets, crew assist in locating downed aircraft

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --   An HC-130P assigned to the 71st Rescue Squadron here aided authorities in locating a downed aircraft in Clinch County,Ga., April 4.

The crew was on a routine training mission when Jacksonville, Fla., air traffic control asked for aerial assistance in locating the small aircraft. The crew orbited the area around the downed plane until authorities could locate and respond to the site.

Clinch County Sheriff's office confirmed everyone on board survived the crash.

"While our assets are primarily known for combat search and rescue, we regularly aid civilian authorities when incidents such as this occur," said Col. Kenn Todorov, 23rd Wing vice commander. "Both our HC-130 and HH-60 helicopter crews, as well as our pararescuemen, are ready to respond to these types of events and we are glad this one had a positive outcome."
