Controlled fires enable Avon Park Air Force Range mission
Staff Sgt. Christopher Imel, 822nd Base Defense Squadron fireteam leader, patrols an area in response to reports of suspicious activity during a Mission Readiness Exercise, March 9, 2017, at Avon Park Air Force Range, Florida. Using prescribed fires and other wildland management techniques, the Avon Park Wildland Support Module keeps the range’s critical mission going throughout the Florida drought. The WSM is part of the Air Force Wildland Fire Center, a mission of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Environmental Management Directorate at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
